PictureAnthony Montes with his teacher Sandy Meisner

Anthony has had extensive training in the Meisner Technique and the Strasberg Method.

Anthony began his Meisner training at Playhouse West in North Hollywood. He received his training from it’s founder, Bob Carnegie and it was through Bob’s program that Anthony was able to study with Sanford Meisner himself. Meeting and studying from Meisner himself has not only changed Anthony’s Acting/Writing/Directing & Teaching, but his life. From Mr. Meisner’s technique Anthony learned to, “Live Moment To Moment,” “Live Truthfully,” and to “Not live in the past.” Anthony got to witness Mr. Meisner’s passion up close. Anthony was also able to express his desire to act and how he one day teach.

At the end of the course Mr. Meisner gave Anthony a note that said: “For Tony, With my true hope for a creative and rewarding future. Sandy Meisner” And what a creative and rewarding future it has been.

Some of Mr. Meisner’s most recognized students include, Diane Keaton, Jon Voight,
Robert Duvall, Gregory Peck, Jeff Goldblum, David Mamet, Peter Falk, Steve McQueen,
Mark Rydell, Grace Kelly, Sydney Pollack and many, many others. Among those that
where in Anthony’s class at Playhouse West where, Michelle Pfeiffer (Scarface) Laraine

Anthony studied the Strasberg Method with Charlie Laughton, who was Al Pacino’s friend and coach. Charlie also and a major influence on Anthony’s Acting/Writing/ Directing & Teaching. Charlie gave Anthony some advice when he saw one time that Anthony was having some difficulty on a scene that he was working. This piece of wisdom that Charlie gave to Anthony for a scene he was working on, not only changed the scene, but Anthony’s life. Charlie told him, “Don’t attach yourself to the result... Enjoy the Journey.” This made a huge difference in the way Anthony acted on stage and in life.

Anthony also studied the Strasberg Method from two time Academy Award Winner, Shelley Winters. Anthony studied with Ms. Winters at the Famed, Actors Studio. Shelley was very passionate and dedicated to the work and from Shelley, Anthony learned another way to emotionally prepare for a scene. Ms. Winters passion for the work, was also a major influence in the way Anthony approaches the work.

Anthony is grateful for gift he received from these great teachers and it has become his passion to share these gifts with his students. Along with teaching for James Franco’s school and being a Guest Teacher at Playhouse West, Anthony is the head Meisner teacher at the New York Film Academy.

Goal:

Our goal is to have a group actors trained to work together, truthfully under the imaginary circumstances, with a rich emotional life and a passion for the work. Then we will be mounting plays every six months, taking what is taught in the classroom and putting it on the stage. We want the audience to feel as thought they are peeking through a key hole.
